Dark Net Explained — Tor, Hidden Services & Onion Routing

The Dark Net — Truth vs Fiction

The dark net is estimated to be 400-550 times larger than the surface web. Here's how it actually works.

Internet Layers

• Surface Web (4%): Google-indexed websites
• Deep Web (90%): Databases, intranets, paywalled content
• Dark Web (6%): Requires special software (Tor) to access

How Tor Works

1. Your traffic enters the Tor network at an Entry Node
2. It's encrypted and passed through a Middle Relay
3. It exits through an Exit Node from a different country
4. Each node only knows the previous and next node — not the full path

Accessing .onion Sites

# Install Tor Browser
sudo apt install torbrowser-launcher -y
torbrowser-launcher
